HUNDREDS SEARCHED IN CRACKDOWN ON STREET GANGS

OVER 500 youths were searched during a recent police campaign to prevent gang disorder in Irvine.
Operation Focus adopted a ”zero tolerance” approach to the growing problem of youth gang culture in Dreghorn, Bourtreehill, Broomlands and Girdle Toll.
Police reported that 532 youths were searched for weapons or possession of drugs during the three weeks of the Operation while 357 were warned with regard to their behaviour.
