By Charlie Rowney

A MAN who was walking home after a night out at the weekend had to be rushed to hospital after he was stabbed in the leg when he asked a gang of youths for a light.

The 38-year-old local man was on his way home during the early hours of Sunday morning after an evening out in the town centre.

He was walking along Tarryholme Drive when he noticed a group of youths standing in the lane between numbers three and five at around 2.30am on June 25.

Realising he needed a light for his cigarette, he crossed over towards them and asked them if he could borrow a lighter.

But as he turned to carry on walking up the road, he was grabbed from behind, pulled to the ground and stabbed in the back of his left leg.
