US MILLIONAIRE JETS IN TO DISH DIRT ON SIMCLAR

By Kevin Dyson

Printer Print Article

AMERICAN millionaire Melvyn Kaufman has vowed to expose the `cloak and dagger` actions of Simclar boss Sam Russell, who he claims sold off vital factory equipment in the middle of the night.

Mr Kaufman, whose firm owns the Simclar plant at the Riverside Business Park in Irvine, flew into Scotland for three hours of talks with politicians, lawyers and accountants last week.

And the businessman, who leased the plant to Simclar, claims to have evidence of `obscene` behaviour by the company, claiming the held an auction of equipment a month before the factory closed.

He also cites the Bank of Scotland, claiming they loaned Simclar (Ayrshire) millions on pounds in the knowledge it was on the brink of going under.

Mr Kaufman has handed over information to local MSP Irene Oldfather and North Ayrshire Council.

A Simclar spokesperson said: `We have acted properly throughout this entire process.`
