SHED LIGHT ON YOUR DEALINGS!
By Kevin Dyson
AN ENGINEERING company believes it is due up to £800,000 in damages after the council bungled a street lighting contract.
Lightways says that it is due the sum for legal costs and lost profits after North Ayrshire Council agreed to put its lighting maintenance contract back out to re-tender.
The company had originally lost the contract despite an offer £60,000 less than its rival, and current contract holder, Centre Great.
However, it claims this was due to a dodgy scoring system for quality.
And after being threatened with legal action, NAC opted to re-tender.
Now Lightways say they are in a no-win situation as their initial bid was made public and is open to being undercut.
This has prompted them to call for the original bids, with an adapted score being taken into account.
Since this has been deemed impossible by NAC officials, Lightways are threatening to claim for legal and work costs as well as profits lost in the interim period.
