U-TURN BY RED FACED ROAD CHIEFS

By Kevin Dyson

Printer Print Article

DOZY roads chiefs have wasted days of police time and let dozens of speeding motorists off the hook after putting up the wrong speed limit on the Irvine bypass.Amey Highways put up 40mph limits signs after starting roadworks on the A78 near Broomlands on September 2 through to October 1.

However, this was done illegally as they had actually applied for a 50mph temporary limit, meaning that operations by police - who caught 34 drivers racing at up to twice the signed limit - had to be cancelled.

The bungle has also meant extra work for court staff who have nor been required to sort out the mess.
