IRVINE was battered by storms causing mass damage and hundreds of homes in Kilwinning were left without power after the nightmare weather last week.

As winds reached up to 85mph during the night, major damages occurred all over North Ayrshire and with trees and debris landing on power lines thousands of homes were left in the dark.

Kilwinning suffered the worst of the power loss with a couple of hundred houses left with no electricity.

Scottish Power were bombarded with calls from 1,700 Ayrshire residents who had been left powerless.
