Crisis in the community
Print Article
MANY local community groups all over Irvine and Kilwinning will have to shut down if a 200 percent increase in hall letting prices proposed by the council goes ahead.
The massive rise will see small groups such as scouts, sports classes and mother and toddler groups have to hike out a fortune with prices rising from £3.85 as high as £19.
It currently costs £3.85 to let a hall, but proposals would see small halls let for £9 and large halls for £19.
One community group member said that the move would be "the death knell" for many groups unable to sustain the charges.
