Find sick cowards
By John-Martin Fulton
A SICK gang of five youths horrendously attacked a vulnerable young man with learning difficulties as he waited alone for a taxi and put him in hospital, say police.
Now officers are hunting the teenage thugs who surrounded and battered the lad outside Irvine train station in the broad daylight - and they say there must be witnesses.
The 18-year-old was making his way home to his mum after shopping when he was approached by a gang who told him to hand-over his goods.
But when he refused, say officers, the gang become violent and blows rained in from the five thugs who surrounded him.
When the beating ended the brave lad made his way home where his horrified mum had him rushed to hospital. He was treated for fractures to his torso.
Meanwhile, officers are astonished that no witnesses to the shocking attack have come forward, as it happened at the busy station taxi rank between 2.30pm and 3pm on Friday.
They also say the items taken were almost worthless and that it was a “poor attempt at robbery.”
The vulnerable victim from Cochrane Street has been unable to provide accurate descriptions of his attackers but said they are aged between 17 and 20.
A police spokesman said: “This was an unprovoked and vicious attack in the middle of the day in a busy area.
“We would appeal for witnesses who saw anything untoward to come forward and make themselves known to police.”
