An ADVENTUROUS Kilwinning roadster is driving a three-day rally over the French Alps and Riviera - in a car that cost under £200.

Brian Lambert, 26, is hitting the road with three chums to take part in this year’s Barcelona Bangers Rally, where cars must be scrapheap-ready to compete.

The course runs through the historical city of Lyon and winds it way to sunny Barcelona.

But e-business worker Brian joked: “We’re hoping to get to Dover.”

Meanwhile, the lads are hoping to raise around £5,000 for their chosen charities Cancer Research UK and Care Of Police Survivors in their 1993 Volkswagen Passat Estate.

The pals - Alan Long with David and Richard McClounie - have dubbed themselves the Band of Bodgers and plan to get their car looking more like a military vehicle.

Brian said: “We’ll be making some changes over the next few weeks to get her roadworthy.”
