Can we afford it?
By Kevin Dyson
THE COUNCIL has refused to confirm Chief Executive Ian Snodgrass' promise that no projects would be axed as a result of the rejigging of its capital budget.
Around £20m less willl be spent over the next two years with projects such as the renovation of the Town House, the £6m housing development of Montgomery Park, the renovation of Bridgegate and new schools at Dreghorn and Mountgomerie Park all being affected.
The fall in funds is due to a decision by the council not to sell surplus land at a time when the housing market is in a slump - which would have meant selling the land on the cheap.
