VULNERBALE residents in Irvine are targeted by cold callers selling fire alarms that end up costing them up to £6000.
Trading Standards are warning poeple to watch out for an English-based company operating in the area who, once inside people's homes, swiftly fit alarms which they claim to be free.
However, the salesmen then persuade customers to sign credit agreements which last around eight years and cost £5000 to £6000 in maintenance costs.
Trading officers claim to have saved customers more than £20000 and explained new laws which provide a seven day rescue period for anybody caught out by the callers.
