DON'T BRING ANY BOOZE!
By Stewart McConnell
POLICE are ready to enforce a booze ban at Saturday’s hotly anticipated Scottish Junior Cup Third Round all-North Ayrshire showdown between hosts KILBIRNIE LADESIDE and IRVINE MEADOW at Valefield Park.
And segregation will also be in place at the game, which is expected to attract a bumper crowd to the Garnock Valley ground.
Following consultation with the Scottish Junior Football Association both clubs are highlighting the fact that alcohol will not be allowed into the ground which will have a strong police presence with four police officers outside and four inside Valefield.
Meadow secretary/general manager Iain McQueen said: “Both clubs have been in consultation with the Scottish Junior FA who are highlighting the fact that no alcohol is allowed at the ground for Saturday’s game.
`There will also be part segregation and we are hopeful that the game will pass without any incident.”
Meanwhile ace Meadow midfielder Kenny Gillies is positively relishing the game against his former side, rated by manager Chris Strain as the tie of the round.
Gillies (31), who joined Meadow from Kilbirnie almost two years ago, said: ”I am really looking forward to the game and it should be a good game as both sides are playing really good football. I really enjoyed my time at Kilbirnie Ladeside and am very friendly with Digger Fulton, their assistant manager who was a team mate of mine at Arthurlie.
“They have some excellent young players, including the likes of midfielder Liam McGuinness and we beat them 2-1 in a league match last season but it was a close one. We have quality players, including James Tyler who has been scoring a lot of goals, Andy Essler and Derek Wingate. Hopefully we can get through, even if we could take them back to Meadow Park for a replay I would be happy with that.”
