Last gasp Meadow save the day
By Stewart McConnell
A LAST gasp penalty from former St. Mirren man Brian McGinty helped leaders Irvine Meadow defeat Talbot and keep their title dreams.
The league clash between these Ayrshire giants was played out on a gluepot surface which made slick passing football almost an impossibility.
However, it was Talbot who started stronger and it was 20 minutes until Meadow even made it up the park with an effort.
The 2006 Scottish Junior Cup champions took the lead with a Mallon strike beating Michael Wardrope.
However, Meadow began to impose themselves more on the game and they drew level shortly before half-time through when Andy Essler outpaced the home defence and deftly crossed for Hamilton to finish off.
The game stayed tight right through until the final minutes when McGinty was hauled down in the box.
The former Saint dusted himself down and slotted home for a hugely important three points.
