Meadow bow out two down to Pollock
POLLOCK 2 IRVINE MEADOW 0
GUTTED goalscorer Gavin Friels admitted Irvine Meadow face amn anxious waiting game after blowing thier chance to move to the brink of the West Premier title at ewlandsfield Park on Saturday.
Victory or even a draw in their final league game would have left champs Pollock facing a massivetask to overhaul the Meadow Park men.
Now five wins from their last seven games will be enough, although they include tough away trips trips to Glenafton, Cumnock, Auchinleck and Arthurlie.
Ex-Lok star friels almost fired Meadow in front with a close range second half snapshot that home keeper Kris Robertson did well to block, before sub Joe Gold drove th erebound just wide.
Mark Crill had come closest in a disappointing first half with a20-yard free-kick that curled just wide of the post with Robertson just beaten.
Substitute Derek Wingate almost gave Meadow the lead with a powerful free kick that Robertson did well to tip over the corner.
But Meadow were floored by a late double blast, with david McGeowan bursting through the midfield before picking out Zander Ryan to drill the 78th minute opener.
Four minutes later Andy essler wasa harshly sent-off by ref Bobby Madden after he ruled taht the ex-pollok winger had blocked a Downs header with his hands in the line.
Downs stepped up to smash the penalty Michael wardrope and wrap up the victory.
