SOME of the top young golfers from both sides of the Atlantic are converging on Irvine's Glasgow Gailes Golf Club this week for the collegiate version of the Ryder Cup.

Europe takes on the United States in the Palmer Cup and proceedings get underway with tonight's (Wednesday) opening ceremony at 5pm.

The fourballs matches will be played tomorrow and on Friday, from 7.30am, while the singles matches will tee off from 1.30pm to 2.40pm on both days.

There is just one Sco in the European team, Scoot Barrowman of Dollar, who won the 2007 Scottish Youths Strokeplay Championship.

Other home interests come from Northern Ireland duo Jonathon Caldwell and Gareth Shaw whilst England's Charlie Ford is also competing.
