CUP MAGIC FOR MEADOW

Irvine Meadow 3 v 0 Lugar Boswell Thistel
RED hot favourites Meadow outmuscled tenacious 10-man Lugar with a competent show in dismal wintry condtions to lift their first trophy for two seasons but were made to work hard by the East Ayrshiremen and the scoreline slightly flattered Christ Strain's side.
And you can't help but think they were holding back for the critical Scottish Cup showdown with Bathgate Thistle this coming Saturday.
With Chris Strain's men 5-1 on to defeat their opponents who were rated 5-1 against many punters said the only question was how many goals the firm favourites could score although to be fair it took the red-carding of Bryan Mulgrew for a last man challenge to open the floodgates and but for a stunning save by Meadow goalkeeper Michael Wardrope it could have been a slightly closer finish.
In saying that last season's Premier Division runners-up dictated the entire pace of the game and the gulf of two leagues certainly showed for much of thi smatch.
