BUDGET CUTS WON'T BE A PAIN-FREE SOLUTION

I HAVE to admit that I don't envy councillors and council officials who are involved in making ends meet in the budget process. Every year it seems that the inevitable cuts and savings have to be met. And for years you could have argued that it was because the council wasn't spending its money wisely.

IT'S TIME REAL ACTION WAS TAKEN TO SAVE THE CARRICK

SOMETIMES you get these wee moments of clarity, when you realise that noone actually knows what's going on and everything that happens is...well...pretty arbitrary and random. It happened to me last week when I was thinking about the never-ending story that is the Carrick.

Not that they were ever likely to rival the Kennedys as a family of political giants, but the ignominious nature of Ryan - Kilwinning councillor and son of MSP Irene - Oldfather's conviction for crashing a car and refusing to give a breath test to police perhaps fittingly bookends the Labour member's short career.
