AN IRVINE historian has unearthed a fascinating link between the late Princess Diana and the Provosts of Irvine.
The Times can exclusively reveal that Diana - who was killed in a Paris car crash 12 years ago this week - was directly descended from Irvine Provost Hew Scott, whose family are buried in the grounds of the Old Parish Church.
Billy Kerr, who writes the Kirkyard Reporter column for the Times, told us how he came across the link by chance as he studied headstones in the Old Parish Church grounds during the Christmas break.
"I certainly wasn't looking for the connection, but when I realised it was there I was stunned, " he said.
