POLITICIANS from across Scotland have ruled Irvine's school dinners are anything but disgusting at a tasting session at the Scottish Parliament.

Just weeks after the Times reported that pupils at Dreghorn Primary were boycotting lunches because they found the new menu 'horrible', MSPs have been happily tucking into the very same award-winning meals.

The catering team from North Ayrshire served up some of their finest dishes at last week's event, organised by Soil Association Scotland and hosted by Rob Gibson MSP, showcasing some of the best of Scotland's school food.

North Ayrshire Council is one of only two local authorities in Scotland to have achieved the gold Food for Life Catering Mark, the Soil Association's UK-wide award for caterers that provides a guarantee that food is fresh, healthy and that all meat can be traced back to the farm.

The menu included freshly made chicken curry and steak casserole, washed down with Scottish organic milk or tap water.
