POLICE have reiterated warnings about bogus callers, following an incident in Girdle Toll.

It was on the morning of Friday, November 22, that a vulnerable man living alone in the area answered the door to a lone female caller who claimed to be from the council.

The woman, who was around 45-years-old, and dressed in dark clothing, said she was there to examine the property's windows and despite the fact she carried no ID was able to bluff her way inside.

Though she left empty-handed, suspicions were raised when the man described the visit to family members, who then contacted North Ayrshire Council and confirmed no official had been out to the house.

The matter was reported to the Times by a concerned member of the public, who said: "With the time of the year and the way of the world there are a lot of them around.

"I just want people to know that there's a bogus caller going about the Girdle Toll area.

"A vulnerable person might let her in because they think they can trust a woman but this shows you shouldn't be letting anyone through the door, whether man, woman or child." See more in this week's Irvine Times, out now.
