THE SCOTTISH Maritime Museum was transformed into a fashion catwalk last week, as 30 young people put their creative talents on display.

Impact Arts, in partnership with North Ayrshire Council, guided 30 young adults (aged 16-19) through an 18 week creative employability programme designed to enhance their skills in fashion and design.

Those who took part had a choice of learning skills in fashion design and business in the ‘Fashion’ project, or landscape design including consultation, product design and creative community regeneration on the ‘Environmental Design’ project. As well as teaching invaluable creative skills in the workshops, other skills and experience gained included retail and customer service, working with clients for commissioned projects, team building skills and personal development support.

To mark the end of the programme, the Maritime Museum hosted a final showcase and graduation event including a feast of cutting edge fashion and a display of the regeneration works carried out in and around the Irvine Harbourside.

Visitors also had the opportunity to browse and buy products at the pop-up boutique. Picture by Irvine Times photographer Ken McKissock. To get any copies of the pictures call Jackie at Ayrshire Weekly Press on 01294 273 421.
