DESPITE its impending closure, Irvine’s HMRC office can still be of value.
That’s the view of Irvine’s MP Brian Donohoe who believes the tax office at Marress can be used to accommodate and improve council services.
The Central Ayrshire politician was disappointed with the news that the office will close at the end of 2015 but believes the building can still be of use.
He said: “The building is in a perfect location within the car park at Cunninghame House, the headquarters of North Ayrshire Council. The two office blocks are literally a stone’s throw apart.
“The council is gradually cutting back on its portfolio of offices and concentrating service management in Irvine.
“I believe it makes good business sense for the council to acquire the tax office and link it to Cunninghame House. Some of the services being transferred from the likes of Perceton House could be based there.
“We don’t want a prominent building, in a key part of town, lying empty and disused.
“Before long it would be rundown and an eyesore for people heading to the harbour or arriving in Irvine by train.
“I am hoping North Ayrshire Council will see the clear benefits of taking over these offices.
“It would preserve the building as well as provide quality office accommodation in the perfect location.”
