TWO sisters from Irvine performed fantastically this week at the Scottish Acrobatics Championship.

Simona and Elizabeth Marinov, who stay in Lawthorn, attended the national championships at the Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell and won a gold and bronze medal between them.

Elizabeth performed with her partner William Currie in the mixed pairs event and after a superb performance, they were crowned as the Scottish champions.

They were required to give two performances, one being a balance routine and the other a dynamic.

The result is even more special considering that Elizabeth and William have only been partners for three months.

The 11-year-old has now been chosen to represent Scotland for the second time as she was part of the national team for the Celtic Acrobatics Cup last year, and the Lawthorn Primary pupil has now qualified for the British Championships in Stoke-on-Trent.

Elizabeth’s older sister, Simona, performed in her first ever acrobatics competition with her partner Amy Gold and secured third place in the grade four womens pairs.

The 14-year-old Stewarton Academy pupil has been training with Amy as her partner for less than 10 months and they secured a fantastic score of 27.100 to get their first medal as a team.

The mother of the sisters, Christina Marinov, is extremely proud of her daughters achievements.

She said: “As parents we are extremely proud and grateful with their achievement.

“They did magnificently well and it’s great to see them gaining such a wonderful reward for all their effort and hard work.

“Thank you to everyone who helped them and supported them and I can only wish to every parent to go through such enormous happiness.

“They are training at Kilmarnock Acrobatic Gymnastics Club and in this line of thoughts we would like to say thank you to their coaches as well as the fabulous choreography made by Laura McClymont.

“We want to wish a massive good luck to Team Scotland at the British Championship in May.”
