A GROUP of teachers from Iceland were given a warm welcome by pupils and staff of Lawthorn Primary School as they paid a fact-finding visit.

The delegation from the Nordic country were in North Ayrshire to learn more about IT systems and understand the Scottish Schools’ Intranet system, Glow. Four of Lawthorn Primary’s ambassadors gave the visitors a tour on their arrival and other pupils highlighted the good work completed over the year.

The P7 pupils explained a variety of ICT tasks from using Excel spreadsheets to record and display survey results, to PowerPoint presentations of information gathered for a project based on Space. Children from P6 impressed the guests by making animations with stop-motion capture techniques, with P5 pupils showing the teachers their Titanic project which included the use of Glow.

The Icelanders were then reminded that they were in Scotland as Calum Ramsay played some traditional tunes on the bagpipes, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

John Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Attainment and Achievement, said: “The pupils and staff were a real credit to their school and I’m sure the guests enjoyed their visit. “Technology is now an important part of learning and it’s really encouraging that the pupils at Lawthorn were so confident and comfortable sharing their knowledge with the teachers from Iceland.”
