ONE of Irvine’s MSPs is holding an employment fair in the town next week.

The event will take place at the Volunteer Rooms on Monday, September 14, and has been organised by Margaret McDougall MSP.

The Labour politician says more needs to be done to tackle unemployment in North Ayrshire and hopes to see a good turnout on the day.

Margaret said: “The North Ayrshire area has continually been effected by high unemployment and many people struggle to find work.

“The figures for July showed that while progress was being made on this issue, unemployment in North Ayrshire is still too high, we have the third highest rate of youth unemployment in Scotland as well as the highest unemployment rate amongst the adult population.

“It’s clear that we need to do more to provide quality jobs through inward investment, more modern apprenticeships and training opportunities not just for young people but everyone who is currently unemployed and looking for work within North Ayrshire.” She added: “While I welcome that the figures are falling, I don’t believe we can just sit back and do nothing, with this in mind I have already hosted a summit on transport options available to those who are unemployed and job seekers, following this I’m now hosting an employment fair.

“The employment fair is great opportunity to showcase the jobs that are available and brings all the employment organisations and training providers together so people can see what is on offer and maybe find a role that they hadn’t previously considered.

“I urge everyone to come along on September 14 from 9.30am to 12pm in the Volunteer Rooms Irvine, and see the training, skills and jobs opportunities that are available in the area. We have over 40 organisations signed up to attend, which is bigger than the last fair I held so it will be well worth coming along –you just might find a job that suits you.”
