A MAJOR day of police action took place on Friday in a bid to reduce violence, disorder and antisocial behaviour.

Almost 40 officers were deployed on the streets across North Ayrshire, with 24 of these office-based staff who were redeployed to provide support to other officers during peak times.

They were supported by colleagues from a range of specialist teams including the Mounted Branch and Dog Branch.

A police spokesman said: “As part of our commitment to make our roads safer, we held a road stop. One car was seized and the driver charged for having no insurance, another driver was also charged for allegedly driving without a licence. Seven other motorists were issued with Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme Notices and another was reported for allegedly having no MOT.” “Officers also searched four properties in Saltcoats and Stevenston earlier today under warrant. A 24-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for being allegedly concerned in the production of a controlled drug and a 40-year-old man has been reported for alleged possession of a Class A drug.

“Teams of officers have also been visiting ‘on’ and ‘off-sale’ licensed premises today to ensure they are operating within the terms of their licence and have been paying visits to areas that could be vulnerable to underage drinking, drug taking, anti-social and criminal behaviour.

“We have also been visiting persons who are subject to special bail conditions requiring them to be at home during specific times.” If you have any issues or concerns about crime in your local community, you can report them to your local community policing team on 101.
