WORLD Stroke Day was marked in Irvine at Ayrshire Central Hospital as the NHS held a stroke awareness event.

On October 29, NHS Ayrshire & Arran invited members of the public and staff to attend the event and find out more about the causes of stroke, how to reduce their risks of having a stroke and also about life after suffering a stroke.

A number of other organisations provided information, including KA Leisure, East Ayrshire Leisure, hospital volunteers, Chest Heart, Stroke Scotland and Vision after stroke.

Carers organisations, stroke specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, orthoptists and the Managed Clinical Network for heart disease and stroke were also on hand to give advice.

Fiona McLaughlin, Stroke Specialist Nurse, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came along to make our event such a success. It is really important that people know the signs and symptoms of stroke, as early diagnosis and treatment can make such a difference to a person’s outcome.”
