A MUM-OF-TWO who drove for cigarettes when she was four times the limit has been banned.

Lisa Quinn, of Loudon Crescent in Kilwinning, was caught after popping to the shops just after midnight on Townhead Street in Stevenston on October 19.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court was told that residents in the street heard a screech of tyres and saw accused breaking to strike the central reservation.

After leaving the car briefly, the 35-year-old was seen staggering and trying to get back in the car before attempted to start it.

Residents contacted the police who found Quinn standing at the side of the vehicle where she admitted being the driver.

Officers detected a smell of alcohol and made her take a roadside breath test which she failed.

She was taken to Saltcoats Police Office where she provided a reading of 84microgrammes of alcohol in 100mililitres of breath. She was cautioned and charged but no reply made.

Defending Quinn Alex Muir said her decision to drive had been an "error of judgement".

He told the court: "She has two children, is on benefits and this was her own car valued at £600. She caused £250 in damage and opted to scrap it.

"This was an error of judgement. She went to a garage for cigarettes, not far from where she lives but was not in any condition to drive."

Quinn was banned from the roads for three years and was fined £400.
