A TEENAGER left fighting for his life after a horror bike smash is making progress, his family say.

Adam Scott was left with serious head injuries when he crashed his motorbike in Irvine last month.

But four weeks on from the crash, the 17-year-old’s family say he is no longer in a coma and has been moved out of intensive care, though there is no way of knowing the extent of the damage of his injuries.

Speaking to the Times, Adam’s dad Jim Scott said: “Adam is still not conscious but he’s not in a coma either.

“He’s been moved out of intensive care, which is a promising sign, but we still don’t have a long-term prognosis.

“He will have to regain consciousness before we will know the full extent of the damage. It’s still very worrying.

“We can only take each day at a time.”

Adam was riding along Shewalton Road on his white KSR motorcycle on Friday, October 23, when he appeared to lose control while trying to negotiate a right-hand bend at around 3.20pm.

The teenager suffered a serious head injury and was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital, where medical staff described his condition as critical.

He was moved to Glasgow’s Southern General that weekend, due to the severity of his condition.

Since then, his Facebook page has been inundated with posts and comments from friends, family and well-wishers.

Jim said the family are drawing strength from the messages.

He said: “Adam has a lot of followers and support which we have found very encouraging and just shows what a great and popular lad he is.”

Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses and information about the crash.

The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators attended to conduct a full examination of the area.

Anyone with information to pass on is asked to call the police on the non-emergency number, 101.
