A MAN has been rescued from his Irvine home after a fire broke out.
Firefighters and police officers rushed to the scene in Redburn Place at around 5.30pm on Saturday, November 21, after reports that a fire had broken out in the kitchen and the resident was trapped inside.
Prior to the arrival of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, police officers and a neighbour managed to force entry and found the flat to be full of thick smoke.
When fire crews arrived they managed to pull the 57-year-old to safety.
He was then taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
A police officer was also treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
Inspector Colin Convery, of Ayrshire Police Division, said: “I am pleased to report that the resident has since been released from hospital after receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.
“A police officer also received treatment at the scene for slight smoke inhalation.
“Without the vigilance of the person reporting this incident the outcome could have been very different.
“My officers demonstrated bravery and entered the flat to ensure the safety of the resident.
“I would like to thank everyone involved who together brought this
incident to a safe conclusion.”
