POLICE are cracking down on dangerous drivers in an accident black spot as part of a national safety campaign.
As part of BRAKE national road safety week Roads Policing officers in Ayrshire have launched a road safety action plan.
Officers will concentrate on the A737 in response to a recent disproportionate number of serious road crashes.
Police officers will be deployed on high visibility patrols to promote road safety and positively influence driver and passenger behaviour while monitoring speed and conducting checks on the road worthiness of vehicles.
Sergeant Kevin Blakely, of Ayrshire Divisional Roads Policing Unit, commented “Road safety remains a key priority for Police Scotland. These action plans are specifically designed to address public concerns and ensure the roads in and around Ayrshire are safe.
“I would encourage drivers to obey the speed limit at all times and consider if their speed is appropriate for the road and traffic conditions.”
Drivers are reminded that the inclement weather during the winter months can seriously affect vehicle handling.
The highway code advises drivers to adapt their driving to the appropriate type and condition of the road they are on. Speed limits should not be seen as a target as it is often not appropriate or safe to drive at the maximum speed limit.
