IRVINE'S big Christmas lights event has been cancelled due to poor weather.
Organisers Irvine Special Events Forum have pulled the plug on the event which was scheduled for this Sunday (November 29) and set to feature The Only Way is Essex star James Lock.
The group say the safety of the public was their primary concern and have thanked everyone who offered their support.
A statement on the group's Facebook page said: "Due to extremely poor weather conditions on Sunday we are unfortunately today having to make the difficult decision to cancel this year's Christmas event.
"This decision was not taken lightly. Our primary concern has to be the safety of people attending the event. Due to the heavy rain and strong winds forecast for Sunday we are unable to proceed.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who worked so hard in the preparations for this event; to all the local businesses who offered their support and to the local authorities who have all been fantastic in helping with the preparations."
