BRITISH athletics legend Steve Cram CBE will address members of Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce at a special lunch event in Irvine next month.

In partnership with the Clydesdale Bank, the BBC Sport athletics commentator will visit the Gailes Hotel, Irvine, on Thursday, February 18 to be the first speaker of the ‘Ayrshire Talks’ series.

Steve will talk about the ‘Psychology of Success - are you born a winner or can you learn the mindset of a champion?’

A spokesperson for Clydesdale Bank said: "Steve has been an ambassador of Clydesdale Bank for a number years and we are delighted to have secured Steve’s return to Ayrshire where he has been extremely well received in the past.

"We hope the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and its members benefit in hearing from a truly world class athlete and commentator.”

A retired track and field athlete, he - along with fellow Britons Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett - was one of the world’s dominant middle distance runners during the 1980s.

Nicknamed “The Jarrow Arrow”, after his hometown, Cram set world records in the 1500m, 2000m and the mile during a 19-day period in the summer of 1985 and won the 1500m gold medal at the 1983 World Championships and the 1500m silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games.

Chamber Chief Executive Val Russell added: “Although Steve comes from a sporting background his drive, mindset and determination to win is something that can inspire us all in the business community and I look forward to hearing from him.”
