A MAN found unconscious in a car with a three-year-old girl is awaiting sentencing.

Thomas Cuthbertson, of Girdle Toll, blacked out after taking a cocktail of drugs on October 10, a court heard last week.

He was found by police in his car at Irvine Beach Park with the girl at around 12.45am

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court was told last week how officers noticed the child looking out of the parked car’s window.

Cuthbertson was seen slumped over in the driver’s seat and directly facing the passenger’s seat.

The young girl was in her pyjamas at the time while Cuthbertson, 46, was unconscious.

Officers opened up the driver’s door and managed to wake Cuthbertson from his drug-induced slumber.

The court heard how Cuthbertson was “extremely disorientated, salivating and slurring his words” after being woken by officers.

He was detained for a drugs search and one gram of herbal cannabis was uncovered.

The girl was then taken back to her home address to the care of her family members.

Cuthbertson was then conveyed to Saltcoats Police Office, where he received an examination from a doctor.

He was deemed unfit to drive through drugs and a blood sample tested positive for diazepam and morphine.

Cuthbertson pled guilty to the offence at court last week.

Presiding Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane adjourned the case until February to gather social work reports.

Cuthbertson was disqualified from driving by the court pending his next appearance.
