AN IRVINE fitness instructor has been nominated for a national award for his life-changing bootcamps.
Scott Brown Fitness (SBF) has been nominated in the OCR Scotland awards which recognises the best outdoor obstacle course racing in the country.
Scott, 33, who runs SBF, has been nominated in the Best Training Provider category and is up against 15 other fitness companies to win the coveted trophy.
The former squaddie, pictured right, was overwhelmed to be nominated alongside some of the best in the business.
He told the Times: “I feel very proud to now be spoken in the same breath as the big outdoor fitness companies across Scotland - including Glasgow, Edinburgh and nationwide - as I didn’t expect SBF to ever be that well thought of but I am over the moon. I thank all the guys who come to me for believing in me.”
Scott says he set up the bootcamp to help people who were stuck in a rut with their fitness and had no idea of the impact it would have.
He said: “I started SBF with the moto ‘Clear Your Mind of Can’t’.
“At first we focused it on charity events and on people who thought they were too out of shape to train or those wanting to achieve dreams of competing at events.
But I also wanted it to be a place where young people wishing to join the Armed Forces could come and prepare properly and be ready for the basic training.
“I wanted it to be the place that doesn’t make you feel different from everyone else at the class in a typical gym.
“I have even had fitness instructors across Ayrshire come to gain ideas or message me for tips which was a nice feeling that what I’m doing, works.  I had taken a break to concentrate on my own training and achieve personal success competing at obstacle racing.
“But since the New Year I’m back after demand and fully focused on SBFs success and already my classes are packed and guys are travelling from all over Ayrshire to be trained.
“It’s also due to the team we have now, everyone helps each other. We also book team events which is optional to take part but it encourages guys to have something to focus and train for.”
Scott says his passion for fitness is what drives him to do the best for his clients.
He said: “I’m passionate about fitness and this was basically my hobby but now people tell me they feel my passion rubbing off on them so it keeps them coming and motivated.
“I live by the rule never tell someone to do something you cant do yourself and the guys like that. They know if I tell them to run up a hill it’s because I’ll probably do the same thing after the class finishes.”
You can vote online for the winner of the OCR and Scott is now hoping to gain support from locals.
He said: “Hopefully we get some votes for the award as it’s as much the guys’ award and our community in Ayrshire as it is mine. The others I’m up against are from the other parts of Scotland so would be nice to bring the award to Ayrshire.”
