NHS Ayrshire and Arran have urged locals suffering from muscle or joint problems call a special helpline.
If you have a muscle or joint problem and are aged 16 years or over, you can call the national musculoskeletal advice and triage helpline on 0800 917 9390 or visit www.nhsinform.scot/msk to find out how you can help yourself. The non-emergency service offers advice, information and assessment of muscle and joint problems.
Judith Reid – Physiotherapy Consultant in Musculoskeletal (MSK) for NHS Ayrshire & Arran said: “Most people with a muscle or joint problem would automatically go to their GP, or visit their nearest emergency department. However, that is not always the most appropriate place to go”.
“When you call, you will speak to a trained adviser who will ask you some questions about your condition, so that you can be screened for potentially serious conditions. You will then be directed to the website or referred to local MSK services (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Podiatry or Orthotics).”
