A KILWINNING councillor has praised the work of a tenants association after vital improvements were made to the community.

Councillor Donald Reid commended the work of Pennyburn Tenants and Residents Association and the efforts of North Ayrshire Council’s Road Services team for working to make the area better.

Cllr Reid says thanks to the joint efforts, hand rails had now been installed at the Culzean underpass, making passage through easier for anyone with mobility problems.

There have also been improvements made to drainage in the area in a bid to avoid future flooding problems.

Irvine Times:

Cllr Reid said: “As a councillor you have a list of jobs that your constituents pursue with you. You also have your community desires and I’m pleased to say Pennyburn Tenants and Residents Association have been successful this year in pursuing a number of issues and thanks to Roads Services at North Ayrshire Council, they have achieved them.

“Hand rails have been installed at the Culzean underpass to make life easier for those less mobile.

Irvine Times:

“Improvements to the drainage at the underpass. The amount of rain we had this winter, the drains just couldn’t take any more at times.

“Junction sight line protection at key junctions to ensure sight lines are protected to avoid near misses or worse.”

But Cllr Reid says while progress is being made in the area, there is still a lot of work to be done.

He added: “The wish list I have includes St Luke’s Primary parking - working with the council and parent council to promote responsible parking and where ever possible walking.

“While I wrote in my most recent newsletter that markings were to go in at some points, alternatives are being pursued firstly and this will be the immediate fall back if safety does not improve.

Irvine Times:

“Dog fouling will also be a focus for me, the Tenants And Residents Association, North Ayrshire Council and Irvine Housing Association.”

The next meeting of Pennyburn Tenants and Residents Association will be held on Monday, February 29 at the Playz at Pennyburn Local Centre at 6pm.

The meeting normally has representatives from Irvine Housing Association, councillors and the police.

All residents will be welcome.
