A BODY was uncovered from the River Irvine last week.

Police found the male's body within the water near to Irvine Golf Course on Wednesday, March 30.

The death is being treated as unexplained and the man's family have been informed.

Officers say a post-mortem will be carried out in due course.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "At around 6.25pm on Wednesday 30 March, police were called to a report of the body of a man within the water near to Irvine Golf Course. 

"The death is being treated as unexplained as this time, however, a post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
