Police are appealing for information following a "vicious" attack in his Irvine home on Thursday, April 14.

At around 10.45pm hours last night, a 29-year-old man was attacked in his home in Herbertson Crescent by two people (sex unknown), both of whom were masked and carrying weapons.

The assault spilled out on to the street where the two assailants made off into Tollerton Drive, Irvine.

The injured man managed to get help from a neighbour and was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, where he was treated for injuries to his head and body.

He has since been released.

The only description of the two suspects is that they were dressed in dark clothing, were wearing balaclavas and one was tall and the other shorter.

Detective Constable Gavin McKellar, Saltcoats CID, is appealing for witnesses.

He said: “This is a quiet area and we do believe that the attack was targeted, however, even so, this was a vicious attack on the man.

“Quite a few people came to the aid of the man but we still need to speak to anyone who was in the area and who saw the two suspects making off. We believe they may have got into a small black car in Tollerton Drive and then drove off.

“We want to hear from anyone who saw the two of them together, putting on or taking off their masks, or if they saw them hanging about prior to the attack either in the car or on foot."

Anyone with information can contact Saltcoats CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.
