SPIDERMAN met Superwoman who bumped into Captain America...as The Hulk wandered past.

That was the scene at the Palace Theatre as the popular children's entertainers, The Funbox, followed their successful first visit to the venue.

On that occasion the pirates and princesses theme led to some spectacular costumes on show, which was the case again at the weekend.

Funbox, aka Anya, Kevin, Gary and, of course, Bonzo the dog were on their second adventure in East Ayrshire and the audience loved it.

And parents or grandparents were told to join in with the instruction that 'this is for the big people as well' being given throughout the show.

Not that the 'big people' needed much encouragement to do all the moves as they pretended to fly or wave, raise or twirl their hands and arms in time to the songs, with their younger family members making sure there was no slacking.

The songs were a mixture of traditional children's songs and new compositions for the superheroes theme, with the older generation joining in, with no cajoling, for songs such as The Quartermaster's Store.

It went: "There are snakes, snakes, snakes Big as garden rakes, At the store, at the store.

There are snakes, snakes, snakes, Big as garden rakes, at the quartermaster's store.

My eyes are dim I cannot see.

I have not got my specs with me."

Gary said: "Where else can you hear some of these songs? In this day and age, it’s vital to keep that tradition going."
