AN Irvine teenager walked home with a gold medal from a prestigious gymnastics event.
Simona Marinov, of Lawthorn, won gold for Scotland at the Celtic Cup in Jordanstown, Northern Ireland on Saturday, April 16.
The Stewarton Academy pupil and partner Lucy Glendenning helped were part of Scotland’s 11-16 Team One and won the cup for her country for the fourth consecutive year.
It’s been an excellent start to the year for Simona but her sister Ellie is giving her a run for her money.
Ellie last year became British acrobatic gymnastics champion and narrowly missed out on the gold medal in Motherwell a fortnight ago.
But both girls, who train at the Kilmarnock Acrobatic Gymnastics Club, will be competing at the Inter-Regional compettion at Southampton and will face fierce opposition from some of the best teams in Britain.
