BIG-HEARTED Kilwinning volunteers took to the streets again this weekend for another clean up.

The National Cycle Route between Kilwinning and Irvine is now a lot cleaner following a joint clean up effort by Promoting Kilwinning and the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

Eleven volunteers from Promoting Kilwinning, Sustrans, and the Scottish Wildlife Trust held a two hour clean up of the cycle route on Saturday, May 7.

The area is not far from the Irvine Recycling Centre encouraging some people to regularly dump rubbish in the bushes along the path rather than take it to the nearby dump facility.

Volunteers also discovered the lay-by near the Garnock Floods Wildlife Reserve was also full of stumps, branches and other tree debris, obviously being used as a large flytipping site to avoid using the facility nearby.

It is an eyesore for users of the bicycle path. The group has reported it to North Ayrshire Council.

Harry Richards of the Scottish Wildlife Trust thanked volunteers for all their help. He said: “I am very pleased with the effort we made this morning.”

The next big Clean Up will be held by the 19th Ayrshire Scouts on Saturday May 14th between 2pm and 4pm at the Riverwalkway path and Almswall Park area near Bridgend in Kilwinning.
