FIREFIGHTERS were called to two separate kitchen fires within a matter of hours in Kilwinning last week.
Crews from Kilwinning, Ardrossan and Dreghorn attended a fire in a house in Abbots Avenue at 2.08pm followed by another fire in a kitchen in Bonnie Leslie Court ar 9.21pm last then night.
Fire bosses say both blazes involved firefighting action taking place and both had the potential to pose serious risk to life.
Station Manager Derek Davidson warned householders to be vigilant whenever theyre cooking.
He said: “Kitchen fires are common attendances for us and occur on a daily basis. Unfortunately the majority of the time the reason is due to distraction and the people who are cooking just not applying their full focus and attention on the task they are undertaking.
“It only takes seconds for a fire to take hold and spread and before you know it out of control with the prospect of serious injury or even death for anyone caught in the environment. Please take care when cooking and don’t allow your concentration to lapse. Fire starts when your attention stops.”
