A WOMAN who admitted defrauding NHS Ayrshire & Arran has dodged a prison sentence.

Shona Harris, 48, scammed the health board for more than £730 between January 2013 and May 2014.

She claimed to NHS officials that her ex-partner travelled to appointments at Crosshouse Hospital via private car and was entitled to travel expenses.

As a result, NHS Ayrshire & Arran then paid Harris £734.58 to her that she was not entitled to.

She previously pleaded guilty to the offence and returned to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week after the production of social work reports.

Harris’ solicitor, Mr Paton, said his client has since made arrangements with NHS Ayrshire & Arran to pay back the money.

Presiding Sheriff Iona McDonald sentenced Harris to 180 hours of unpaid work.
