MAKE-UP artistry students put the cool into ghoul when they staged an incredible exhibition in Irvine’s Gailes Hotel recently.

Visitors were blown away by the showcase event from the Ayrshire College crew, which had the theme ‘Metamorphosis’.

They were treated to some astonishing fantasy make up designs and sets.

Irvine Times:

‘Metamorphosis’ was the HNC and HND groups Graded Unit show, which had the added pressure of SQA representatives being in attendance to look over their work.

Friends and family also came out to support the students, who had been working hard on preparing for the event since January.

The Make-Up Artistry students’ Graded Unit is marked over three different stages: planning, execution and evaluation.

Irvine Times:

The students decided as a group where to host the event and designed backdrops for their exhibits.

Each student transformed their models for the show with make-up, and allowed the audience to look through their design books.

Their individual portfolios of work produced throughout their time at the college were also readily available to browse.

In previous years the students have presented their make-up designs as part of a bigger event called ‘Creative Candy’ which involved the whole creative department at Ayrshire College.

Irvine Times:

This was their first standalone event.

HND Make-Up Artistry student Kelly McGregor, 39 from Saltcoats, said: “I think the event has brought the class closer together.

“We’re a very tight group anyway and we are always brilliant working with each other, but this was our Graded Unit. You are wanting to be the best one there, but at the same time you are wanting everyone else to succeed. Everyone worked together to get it as best as it could be.”

Lecturer Elaine McCarthy said “I think the standard and the quality of work was excellent. I’m very proud and very privileged to be their lecturer. They’ve been a fantastic asset to the college.”
