POLICE are appealing for information after a man was attacked by a dog in Irvine.

On Wednesday, May 11, police received reports of a man having been attacked while walking his dog in a field near to the Annick Water, Middleton Road.

The man was walking his tan and white Springer Spaniel between 4.35pm and 5pm when he was attacked by a large dog described as being tan coloured and similar to a mastiff.

The victim later attended hospital for assessment and treatment to a number of puncture wounds on his arm.

PC Nik Callan of Kilwinning Community Policing Team said: "This has been a traumatic incident for the victim. We are keen to speak with a man wearing a burgundy t-shirt seen in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident and I would appeal for anyone with any information to contact us."
