IRVINE and Kilwinning’s postcode is officially one of the luckiest in Scotland.

The KA region is home to the second highest number of lottery winners - £50,000 and above - per head of population in Scotland over the past two years, according to The National Lottery.

Not only that, the postcode ranks third in the whole of the UK for winning punters.

In total, 34 top tier prizes of at least £50,000 have been banked by players in the KA postcode, which includes towns in North, South and East Ayrshire, in the past 24 months including the creation of five Lottery millionaires.

This makes KA one of the luckiest of the UK’s 121 postcode areas with 221 major prizes of £50,000 or more having been won.

And since The National Lottery’s inception, 21 millionaires having been created most recently 18 school cleaners from Saltcoats who scooped £1million on a EuroMillions syndicate and Irvine woman Linda Cain who took early retirement when she won £250,000 on a scratchcard.

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor for The National Lottery, the man who pays out the big winners, said: “Residents of Ayrshire have been enjoying plenty of National Lottery luck recently, so much so they are one of the luckiest postcodes in the UK.

“With plenty of big money wins and five millionaires created over the last two years, they have lots to celebrate.

“There are now a massive 4,250 National Lottery millionaires across the country and with more than six new millionaires made every week there is likely to be another local winner made soon.”
