A MAN has appeared in court after allegedly climbing on to the roof of an Irvine pub and threatening to jump off.

Irvine town centre was brought to a standstill following the alleged incident on Sunday, May 29.

Eyewitnesses allege that a man climbed onto the the roof of the Delta Bar in Bridgegate and threatened to jump off during an alleged three-hour stand off with police.

Bridgegate was cordoned off during the alleged incident which started just after 4pm and carried on until around 7pm.

The man was allegedly eventually talked down off the roof by police and taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman from Irvine Police Office said this week: “A 30-year-old male from Irvine was arrested and held in custody over an alleged breach of the peace offence in Irvine Town Centre on Sunday, May 20. 

“He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he was treated for superficial injuries before he was deemed fit to be detained by police.

“He was held in custody to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, May 31.”
