YOUNGSTERS in Kilwinning are set to benefit from a £15,400 cash boost served up to their local sports club.

Kilwinning Community Sports Club was awarded the bumper cheque by the Postcode Community Trust - a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The club will use the money to run its “To Activity and Beyond” project which has included funding to construct a multi-purpose area, purchase equipment and fund coaching costs to offer sports including tennis, netball and basketball.

The club is planning on running a variety of programmes with free coaching for the local community.

And among the first to try out the new venture were youngsters from St Winning’s Primary, pictured on this page.

The project will allow the club to offer a variety of sports to add to the existing football and golf facilities on offer and will benefit all ages and abilities.

The club will also use the new facility to strengthen their current links with the local schools, develop additional after school programmes, expand the current school holiday camps and encourage the formation of new individual tennis, basketball and netball clubs for children and adults.

Colin Hunter, Sports Development Officer at the club, said “We are delighted to receive this funding allowing us to create an area, purchase much needed equipment and cover coaching costs to offer sports such as tennis, netball and basketball to the local community.

“We are very happy and excited to get the community involved in these additional sports and will also work alongside Active Schools North Ayrshire.”
