HOUSING association ANCHO are still to decide on abandoning their takeover of Redburn Community Centre.
As revealed by the Times last week, North Ayrshire Council approved the company’s bid to move to Stage 4 of their Community Asset Transfer.
But ANCHO are disappointed with how long the process has taken having first submitted their application three years ago.
Permission was previously granted in principle for a full takeover but now ANCHO have been offered a community activity pilot.
Last Thursday, (May 26), the housing firm’s board met to debate whether or not to walk away completely from the project.
The company insist an overwhelming majority of residents surveyed backed the plans despite claims to the contrary from former MP Brian Donohoe and Irvine West Councillor Ian Clarkson.
ANCHO Director Elaine Gibson said this week that they would be seeking further clarification from NAC.
She said: “ANCHO’s board agreed, on Thursday evening last, to defer a final decision on the Community Asset Transfer of Redburn Community Centre.
“This is pending the outcome of a request, from ANCHO’s Chair, Jackie Browne, for more and specific information about why the process has been delayed to this extent contrary to the council’s published policy on Community Asset Transfers.
“This is given that cabinet agreed that the Asset Transfer of Redburn Community Centre to ANCHO should proceed to Stage 4 of that policy, and the council have not implemented that decision.”
